In the construction of medium- and large sized diesel engines, the use of V-clamps has become common practice. Less space, lower weight and reduced cost (with a noticeable reduction in installation time) are the most significant advantages over traditional flange connections.

BOA has developed an innovative method for designing these V-clamps. Based on the dynamic properties of pressure and high temperatures, BOA uses a proprietary FEM calculation (finite elements method) to calculate the required flange forces.
Through these detailed calculations, the V-clamp construction can be designed. The number of bolts, the material thickness and the gasket details can for instance be designed from the FEM data.
