On 16 March 2016, commercial vehicle industry suppliers from all over the world met in Woerth/Germany. The reason for this was the supplier conference for the new HDEP2020 engine platform from Daimler Trucks, the next engine generation for heavy trucks (Heavy Duty Engine Platform, HDEP). To develop them in a close partnership Purchasing, Engineering and Platform Management from Daimler Trucks are looking for the appropriate suppliers at the moment.
Wolfram Schmid, Leader Product Platforms, Quality and Sales Truck Powertrain, talked about the positive development in the last years, to which the HDEP engine significantly contributed. The engines from 10,7l to 15,6l and with 240 KW up to 460 KW were introduced in the triad and helped developing Daimler to a global player.
With the new HDEP2020 engine platform Daimler is still putting emphasis on the module strategy. The suppliers do not only focus on quality and adherence to delivery dates, but more on competitiveness and costs. Suppliers who are competitive regarding costs have good chances to win a contract.
During the supplier conference, all participating companies got the chance to visit Daimler Trucks biggest assembly plant and afterwards to discuss with the responsible persons.
Martin Grimm, Director Sales Automotive Central Europe, to his experience during the supplier conference: „The interest of winning the BOA Group as supplier for the HDEP2020 platform could be noticed and is a big chance for us. It will be decided in the next months, if we are part of this project.”
