Select the required expansion joint type:
Axial expansion joints are suitable for absorbing axial expansions (lengthening) in straight lengths of pipes.
In addition, axial expansion joints are used:
Versatile and multi-purpose use of axial expansion joints requires appropriate fixed points and axial guide supports to be present.
For further information, please refer to our respective valid leaflet.
Angular (hinged) expansion joints are suitable, not only for compensating long pipe sections in pipelines, but also for short leg boiler and engine room pipes for two and three-dimensional pipe systems.
Unlike axial and lateral expansion joints, which are independent dilatation units, angular expansion joints and angular gimbal expansion joints are a component. At least two and maximum three angular expansion joints form a statically determined joint system. Its action is based on the angular movement of steel bellows, which is given in the technical data sheets as an allowable angular rotation.
Angular expansion joints are generally installed with
50 % prestress. The prestress is preferably introduced to the finished joint system.
The larger the angular expansion joint spacing that can be chosen, the larger the expansions that can be absorbed by the system or the lower the displacement forces.
The axial reaction forces caused by the inner pressure are transferred through tie bars.

Like the angular expansion joints, the action of the Lateral expansion jointsis based on the angular movements of the steel bellows. The movement capacity depends on the overall length or the distance between bellows centres. The larger the overall length or distance between bellows centres, the larger the lateral movement capacity.
The displacement forces of the expansion joint can be reduced by a larger distance between bellows centres. Unlike the angular expansion joint, the lateral expansion joint is an independent unit, which represents a complete two joint system.
The lateral expansion joints are usually installed prestressed with 50 % of the movement capacity. The prestress is preferably introduced to the finished system.
